A social ride to Wakefield Park & Goulburn

Our last trip to Wakefield Park was on the 27 May and ‘Speed Off The Streets’, motorcycle racing practice was on again. A day out enjoyed by all of us last time. Graham lead the group as we made our way along the Federal Highway turning off at Macs Reef Road then onto Gundaroo Road passing through Bungendore. We then made our way to Tarago village covering 63km, turning left onto Goulburn Road. We passed through Lake Bathurst village and finally arrived at Wakefield Park. A coffee break was in order after covering 89km in cool overcast conditions with the occasional sunny spell. After coffee and Mars bar enjoyed by some, we walked over to the trackside to view a few local lads having fun around the track. Sessions are arranged in various groupings for example, novice riders on street bikes who lap in one and three quarter minutes and more experienced riders in around one minute plus. Good fun to watch.

For the young braves and old fools alike, you can risk your neck for seven, fifteen minute sessions per week day for just $120 plus Aussie Alliance licence at $50 (annual fee), for my part I’d rather watch them, but I’m a kill-joy eh!!

We had a short visit to the pits to check the bikes out, most having tyre warmers on, heating them up to 26c (see photograph) and taking it very seriously, before leaving to make our way to town for lunch.

A pleasant time was spent at Rosie’s Café in Goulburn a good food place, chatting and enjoying lunch with good company. We decided to make our way home the same way as we had come. Again Graham took the lead and kept up a quick pace until we reached Bungendore, where we stopped for afternoon tea and coffee. Travelling back home via EPIC Rally point we had covered 200km round trip for the day. Another good Wednesday ride.
