Wednesday Ride Report – 19 August 2009 A social ride to Gunning with lunch at the Old Hume Cafe Roll Call:
Apologies: Jim Alexander; Lorraine Lister; Denis Murphy & Floyd Primmer Rally point: 10.00am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC Winter days don’t get better then this, clear blue sky with a temperature of 14c at commencement of the ride rising to 17c. We welcomed Peter Davey who joined us for his first Midweek Ride. Some of our usual members who were unable to attend on this glorious day were: Jim who is studying website design for the next few weeks. Lorraine is on a reconnoitre somewhere near Tamworth in readiness for the spring trip on 27 September. Denis was on his way home from Singapore. John is having a bit of fun with me again this week noting his mount as a 1954 BSA Bantam - Last seen making smoke just like a battleship somewhere on Federal Highway! We all headed up the Federal Highway then through Sutton Village onto Gundaroo. The new bridge work just outside Gundaroo which I’ve mentioned in previous reports is still work in progress. We stopped at the Old Hume Café our usual watering hole. The boss this week was taking the day off and had mentioned to her staff to look after us in their usual helpful and friendly way. A pleasant couple of hours was spent chatting and partaking of refreshments. With such a pleasant day we decided to make our way home via Gold Creek that is, Murrumbateman Road, Nanima Road and Barton Highway. We stopped at ‘Luv-a- cuppa’ café for afternoon tea and enjoyed the sunny conditions sitting outside the cafe. Peter Davey mentioned it was more of a café crawl then a ride. Ernie and Phil made their way home via our outward journey. Total distance back to the Rally Point was 152km another great day’s ride with good mates. Len Skipper
