Wednesday Ride Report – 2 September 2009 A social ride to Gunning via Collector Present: Apologies: Jim Alexander Rally point: 10.00am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC This week’s ride was chalk and cheese from last week, which was one of our coldest. Today, our first spring ride of the year was in perfect conditions, bright and sunny with a temperature range of 10–16C mark. The general feeling of the group this week was a ride to Gunning via Collector. Lorraine headed the group off up the Federal Highway. The road conditions were perfect and the traffic was light, we turned off at Collector covering 47km from the rallying point. The old petrol station at Collector which has been closed for some time now had a sign saying to be open shortly, perhaps tourism is increasing? The Old Hume Highway is deteriorating with large pot holes appearing in many places as I’ve mentioned in previous reports. Now they have been marked with yellow lines around them, hopefully, to be repaired in the near future. The drive into Gunning was most enjoyable with Lorraine setting a quick pace. We stopped for refreshments at our usual place, The Old Hume Café - the outside seating was fully occupied by other patrons so we joined the tables together inside and enjoyed the food and good company. We decided to travel home via Murrumbateman and Nanima Road. Floyd, Phil and Stan went home the most direct route via Sutton and the Federal Highway. John took the lead once we turned off onto Murrumbateman Road for the final Barton Highway leg. The round trip was around 190km to my place and home by 2.15pm. Len Skipper
