Wednesday Ride Report – 4 November 2009 A social ride to Crookwell via Goulburn Riders: Apologies: Stan Perry Rally point: 10.00am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC While assembling at EPIC we had two HART team (Honda Riding Technique) members turn up to have a chat with the group, they were off to give a group of Posties a day’s training. Graham had a long chat with the local reprehensive who works for Honda and rides a Thruxton. He said, ‘they needed a bit of class at the shop’. It was a perfect day for a longer ride than usual, the group decided a trip to Crookwell was just about right for a warm a sunny spring day with the temperature expected to be in the mid twenties. We set of around about 10.30am heading for Bungendore via Macs Reef Road. John and Ken had to be back in town shortly after lunch and decided to have coffee at Bungendore then return home. The group made their way towards Tarago and Lake Bathurst then onto Goulburn stopping for coffee at the Big Merino bakery for coffee and refuelling after covering 100km. After a welcome coffee and break, we set off again for Crookwell a further 47Km and lunch at the local pub. We met up with Steve Davey and Dick Holland (both club members) and one of their mates, Russell Beckett. After a bit of banter about being too posh to ride with us! We all ordered lunch and various refreshments and enjoyed a pleasant lunch time with congenial conversation. Our next destination was Gunning and another stop for afternoon tea at the Old Hume Cafe taking advantage of their outside seating and the pleasant afternoon sunshine. On the final leg of our trip via Gundaroo and Sutton we encountered considerable road works and dirt. The new bridge works outside Gundaroo continues all being at a slow pace, a large roller machine was being off loaded from the prime mover as we were held up at traffic lights, so hopefully the asphalt is about to be laid? We covered just around 300km on our ride and home by 3.30pm Len Skipper |
