Wednesday Ride Report – 11 November 2009 A social ride to Bowning via Yass bypass Roll Call: Apologies: Jim Alexander; John Broad & Stan Perry Rally point: 9.30am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC The forecast for today was sunny and hot, the expected temperature would reach 32c and it did. However, because of the forecast I had arrange to start a little earlier at 9.30am instead of our usual time of 10am. Guess who turned up late? Yes it was me. We eventually got going around 10.30am after considering a ride to Yass, Lorraine suggested Bowning, just 22km further, all agreed. We headed for the Federal Highway turning off at the Sutton junction travelling through the village and left onto Murrumbateman Road. Turning right onto the Barton Highway just before the Murrumbateman village we had covered 50km from rallying point. We continued onto the Yass bypass to Bowning. Arriving at the ‘Rollonin’ café we had covered a total of 85km. We decided to sit outside under the veranda to enjoy delightful day and pleasant garden atmosphere. The food and drinks are of a good standard and the service is always friendly and prompt. Our last visit to Bowning and this café was on 9 September this year. A pleasant time was had chatting and enjoying the refreshments. We left after a couple of hours, making our direct way home through Yass for fuel and onto the Barton Highway. On today’s ride we had covered approx 147km back to EPIC. Another great midweek ride with good friends and engaging conversation. Len Skipper |
