Wednesday 6 Jan 2010 The socialising at EPIC Shell Servo extended well past the hour of 10 am before we got to talking about the ride. The choice came down to being between Bungendore via Shingle Hill Rd or Yass via Murrumbateman Rd., both off Sutton Rd. Just to even up the score a little, the outcome was Yass, notwithstanding the need to mix it with the tin-top lead-foots who frequent the Barton Highway. The scary experience of being amongst the speeding semis, wobbly carovans and other road hogs, was soon forgotten when the party arrived safely at Galutzi's that favourite watering hole at Yass, well known for its friendly service to cheeky old bikies - such a description we like to deny. After being chatted up by a couple of the local opposite gender, who kindly surrendered their table and left to do more shopping, we reserved our seats and proceeded inside to order. One could tell it was a hot day as the preferred drink for us VVC boys was milk shakes and chocolate sundaes - just like the old times. All the same, the tasty fare was sufficient to loosen PJ's big gold crown which he rescued and wrapped in a tissue, not having his superglue at hand for an on-the-spot repair. The only other reported damage on the ride was a burst fork seal on the Zephyr. The return trip was via the Barton Speedway and it was good to see that the road works to upgrade it were continuing with just sufficient disruption to slow the traffic a little. On return home it was a choice between which to hose down first, the bike or the rider. For this one it was the rider. |
