Wednesday Ride Report - 13 January 2010 A social ride and coffee at Moon Rock Café Present: Apologies: Rally point: 10.00am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC Well, today to our surprise the Shell Petrol Station was closed. When I asked one of the workers pulling out the interior of the shop he said, 'it will be closed permanently'. After we refuelled at the petrol station on the corner of Antill Street and the Federal Highway the guy in the shop said, 'it will be reopened as one of the Woolworth Petrol Stations'. So, we'll have to wait and see and arrange another meeting place? Our numbers were down a bit this week because of the holiday period as you can see from the apologies above. The ride this week was a shorter one with the temperature around the low thirties, hopefully a cooler change is coming in from the hot 38°C days we've been having over the last week. This ride destination is always enjoyable, allowing the tyres to be rounded off a bit on the twisty bends and roads along the way to the Moon Rock Café at the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station. Our route took us along the GDE turning off at the Belconnen Way then left into Coulter Drive through to Coppins Crossing, Uriarra Road then left at the Murrumbidgee crossing. The route gets interesting now, left again at the new Forest Settlement where the views are delightful and winding down hill roads most pleasurable until we reached the Cotter Road junction. Once past the Cotter Pumping Station and the road works where it becomes a bit busy with construction vehicles involved on the new dam works, there is another nice stretch of road with more tight bends and turns until you reach the cafe. After a round of coffee and cold drinks and pleasant conversation we headed off to my place for light refreshments. The group finally left around 2.30pm we had covered 69km from EPIC to the Moon Rock Café and a total of 104km to my place in Weston Creek. Len Skipper
