Wednesday Ride Report - 27 January 2010 A social ride to Bungendore via Sutton and Captains Flat Present: Apologies: Floyd Primmer Rally point: 10.00am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC Well, today we had a good roll-up of riders and ideal weather conditions, warm and overcast with the temperature around the mid-twenties. A nice change from the high thirties we've had recently. This week we welcomed Ian Brock who joined us for the first time, Stew Ross who is taking a long vacation to prepare and test his salt racer and Floyd Primmer who couldn't ride with us this week because he is helping his son on a building project. The old Shell petrol garage at Epic is now closed but, there is still access to the shady parking area where we usually meet. We still haven't decided on a new rallying place yet? There are two possible refuelling places where we can top-up our tanks up before we set off on our rides. That is, one at Mitchell and the other at the Federal Highway and Antill Street junction. We made our way up the Federal Highway turning off at the Sutton junction and through Sutton Village turning right at Shingle Hill Way, crossing the Federal Highway again and left onto Bungendore Road. We arrived at Bardy's cafe after covering 54km. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the pleasant weather, snacks and coffee were dually ordered, and the conversation was lively as usual, we decided to leave after an hour or so. We spit into two groups with one making their way back to town via Macs Reef Road and the Federal Highway and the other group comprising of the writer, Ernie, Denis, Jim, Lorraine, Peter and Phil extended the ride to Captains Flat where we posed for a quick photograph outside 'the pub with no beer' today (it was closed). We had a cold soft drink from the petrol station before making our way home. I covered 198km on yesterday's ride door to door. On arrival home I spent the rest of the afternoon with my wife keeping an eye on our eleven month old grandaughter who is just trying, learning to walk. It was great fun but nice to give her back to her Mum and Dad later that evening. Len Skipper
