Another perfect day for a ride, overcast and around the low twenties, the forecast was for a sunny day with a temperature of 26°C which arrived later in the afternoon. Some of the group had already assembled at Bungendore at one of our usual cafe spots. Those of us who had met at EPIC made our way to Bungendore on the quickest route. Not to be left out we decided to join the others who had already downed their first cup of coffee of the day and on the second. (The Bungendore group is marked thus * on above list). After an enjoyable chat for forty odd minutes we left to make our way to Goulburn via Tarago and Lake Bathurst village.

The Murphy clan is planning a riding trip to Vietnam and Denis's brother Neil is brushing-up his riding skills after some year's layoff, it's his second ride with us. The group followed behind the Murphy gang at a gentle pace of 80kmh. It's surprising how much of the scenery you can enjoy at that speed. Not to say we are all a bunch of rev heads but, the sight of the lush green fields after a 130mm of rain we had the other week and the smell of freshly mowed grass was another treat of today's ride as well.

Another surprise of today's ride was the groups of keen biker's making their way to Phillip Island for the super bike racing meet, they must have thought we were going in the wrong direction, we did get the odd wave as we passed one another. Finally we all arrived at Goulburn safely, after covering 89km with withdrawal symptoms for more caffeine and something substantial to eat, before making our homeward journey.

I didn't mention that Peter Wilson was only out for a shorter ride today and to blow a few cobwebs out of his BMW, he returned home after the Bungendore leg. We also welcomed Graham Williams who join our group for the first time on his 750 Honda; I hope he enjoyed the merry band of older bikers who enjoy good company and tales of past adventures in their younger days and an interest in old motorbikes and things mechanical?

Another purpose of today's ride was to check out a new cafe venue, the Greengrocer Cycling and Cafe. Another interesting venue with a good selection of food at reasonable prices and a pleasant environment and atmosphere to match. The staff was very friendly and the service was excellent. If you are interested in bikes without engines, it's a place to must visit next time you are passing Goulburn, you can find them at 37-41 Clifford Street, phone 02 4821 0099 or better still look them up on the net: www.greengrocercycling.com.au

A pleasant hour was spent enjoying the food and conversation before the group split into two, going back home either the quickest route on the Federal Highway or the reverse way we had come. I arrived home just after 3.00pm and covered on today's ride 249km door to door.
