Wednesday Ride Report - 30 June 2010 A social ride to Gunning Roll Call: Apologies: Peter Davey; Lorraine Litster; Floyd Primmer; Denis Murphy and Ernie Seary Rally point: 10.00am from the Old Shell Fuel Station at EPIC My wife was flying over to the UK this morning for the next four weeks to celebrate her mother's 92nd birthday and enjoy the northern summer. I had some business in town and wasn't sure if I could make the ride in time for the 10am kick off but, Stan said. 'They would wait until 10.30 before leaving'. Anyway, I did manage to get there in time. This week has been a week of heavy frost during the night, minus 7°C on Monday night and during the day lucky to reach 10°C. Yesterday morning was around 4 or 5°C and a shorter ride was the order of the day. Gunning was to be our chosen destination by the quickest route possible. Although sunny at first the clouds soon came rolling in and the chill factor riding along felt more like minus 10 -15°C. By the time we reached the Old Hume Café it felt like Jack Frost was getting a grip, even with the many layers of clothing and riding gear. Collin was trying out a new pair of winter cloves and couldn't fill his fingers tips by the time we arrived. Phil is certainly considering fitting a pair of heated grips for his bike perhaps Colin will too? I had mentioned I didn't have time for breakfast and was going to order the big breakfast, Phil also ordered the same. What feast it was too. (No incriminating photographs were taken to protect the innocent). It was just right for a cold winter's day meal. Hot coffee was ordered as well. The Usual Suspects also dropped by on their way to Goulburn and a few joined us as well, not wishing to ride any further. The rest of brave hearted souls went on into the deteriorating weather conditions. By this time the café was getting rather busy with riders and patrons plus two gasfitters installing a log effect gasfire for good measure. I didn't have much time for chatting as I was working my way through the big breakfast and the din of light hearted conversation echoed throughout the café with the odd bag and drill noise coming from the gasfitters working on the roof as well. We departed just before 1pm in brighter weather conditions and slightly warmer, travelling back via Sutton and the Federal highway. Colin, Stan and myself stopped off at Canberra Motorcycle shop in Mitchell for a short browse around the new and second hand bikes and then into the coffee shop next door for one of the best coffee's in town. I arrived home a bit before 3pm and had covered 167km on yesterday's ride. A pleasant time was had by all, I didn't manage to take any photographs this week but, have included one from last week's ride showing the usual Wednesday group. It looks like our numbers will be down in the coming weeks, with four of our usual group travelling interstate visiting family or overseas on holiday. So if any other club members would like to join us they'd be most welcomed. Len Skipper
